Posted: 12 Mar 2012 07:45 AM PDT

Bollywood News: Bollywood actress Nupur Mehta today rubbished allegations that she was involved in match-fixing in last year’s World Cup Cricket semi-final between India and Pakistan at Mohali and threatened to sue a London daily.

London’s ‘The Sunday Times’ carried out a sting operation on a Delhi-based bookie who claimed that the 2011 semi-final was rigged. The paper said that a Bollywood starlet was used to lure Pakistani players to underperform, but did not name her.

An image with a blurred face was published in the newspaper with a report claiming that match-fixing is rampant in international cricket and UK’s domestic county as well. The image seems to be of Nupur.

Nupur, who has worked in Sunny Deol starrer ‘Jo Bole So Nihal’ (2005), told PTI, “I have been accused of something that I have not done. All I would say is I am not guilty of any such thing.” “The picture that they have used was taken during my film, ‘Jo Bole So Nihal’,” Nupur Mehta said. She has threatened to take legal action against the British daily. “I intend to take action against them.”

Priyanka Chopra likes doing negative roles

Posted: 12 Mar 2012 07:27 AM PDT

Bollywood Gossip: She is one of the most sought after leading ladies in the Hindi movie industry, but actress Priyanka Chopra prefers characters with grey shades over positive roles. And why not? Her role of a femme fatale in ’7 Khoon Maaf’ has fetched her a prestigious award.

“I like doing negative roles. I think they are lots of fun. It’s so good being bad,” said the 29-year-old who bagged the Screen award for the best actress in a negative role for “7 Khoon Maaf”. Priyanka had earlier donned negative shades for the 2004 successful film ‘Aitraaz’ for her performance in that film also she had won the Filmfare award for the best performance in a negative role.

The former beauty queen is careful while choosing a role as she feels that the character should leave an impact, however, small it is.

“I think the most important thing in a character to see that it has a presence. A character should not feel wasted or redundant. Even if it is a small role, the scenes that you have should make an impact, that is important,” said Priyanka who will be seen playing Hrithik’s love interest Kaali in ‘Agneepath’ releasing on Republic Day. Besides ‘Agneepath’, Priyanka Chopra is also busy shooting for ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’, ‘Barfee’ and ‘Krrish 3′.

Vidya Balan’s ‘Kahaani’ declared a hit movie!

Posted: 12 Mar 2012 07:15 AM PDT

Bollywood News: After being appreciated for her performance in female-centric ‘Ishqiya’, ‘No One Killed Jessica’ and ‘The Dirty Picture’, actress Vidya Balan carries forwards the legacy of hits with ‘Kahaani’, which has reportedly collected Rs 2.95 crore on its opening day. Released on March 9, 2012 the drama-thriller made on a shoestring budget of Rs 8 crore is receiving positive response from both the critics and audiences.

“The film has opened very well. The collection in India on Friday was Rs 2.95 crore and on Saturday it earned Rs 4.5 crore. A full-pack show is expected on Sunday. The film will definitely survive for over a week,” told Taran Adarsh while talking to Bollywood Reporters.

In director Sujoy Ghosh’s Vidya is cast as a software programmer. She comes to Kolkata from London in search of her husband, who is the father of her unborn child. Gautam Dutta, COO, PVR said that the film has superseded their expectation.

“The response we are getting for the film is phenomenal. There are families coming together to watch the movie. And since it is a women-centric film, there are group of females coming to watch the film. We are expecting a 80 percent occupancy all over India on weekend, which is something we did not expect. And the film should be able to do a good business,” Dutta told Bollywood Reporters.

It is being co-distributed by Pen India Pvt Ltd, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Boundscript Motion Pictures Pvt Ltd. “‘Kahaani’ is a film that is made for serious and sensible cinegoers. Vidya‘s performance is being appreciated by audience. The film is not entertaining like ‘The Dirty Picture’, that is why it has a niche audience. But it will not only recover its cost but also earn profits,” said Delhi based distributor Joginder Mahajan.

If the story and Vidya‘s charma are attracting audiences, distributor Sanjay Ghai of Mukta Arts Ltd says word of mouth is also helping the film a lot in gaining success. “It is houseful in multiplexes and we are expecting collection of Rs.5 crore on Sunday. It is the word of mouth that is bringing people to the theaters,” Sanjay Ghai said.

As no big releases are scheduled for next week, sop Ghai feels absence of biggies at the box office will also help ‘Kahaani’ in strengthening its position at the ticket window. “Since there is no big release next week, it is expected the movie will earn a good amount of profit,” he added.

The thriller, made on a shoestring budget of Rs 8 crore, is receiving positive response from both critics and audiences.
